Therapist in Irvine, California

Marc Bruderer

MS, MBA, Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

I sit with people who look fine from the outside and feel stuck on the inside. Alone or as a couple, you get my full attention and a plain-spoken conversation.

A little about me

I became a therapist later than most. For years I worked in the toy business, then as an entertainment executive, then as an angel investor. I was good at it, and I still felt something was missing.

So I went back to school. I earned my master's degree in clinical psychology at Cal State Fullerton, and I already held an MBA from USC and a business degree from UC Berkeley. My thesis looked at how social media use shapes mood and emotional health.

I've also been the person on the couch. I've dealt with anxiety, divorce, job loss and the death of people I love. That doesn't make me a better clinician than anyone else. It does mean I won't flinch when you tell me the hard part.

I don't believe one kind of therapy works for everyone. I pick from a toolbox, including CBT, ACT, schema therapy, Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic work, and, for couples, Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method. You can read how each one works on my practice website.

Couples

Partners who love each other and keep having the same fight. I help you slow it down, hear each other, and find your way back.

Quick questions

Where do you see clients?

At my office in Irvine, and by secure video for anyone in California. If you live in Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel or anywhere else in Orange County, the drive is usually short.

Do you take insurance?

No. I'm out-of-network. Some plans reimburse part of the cost, so it's worth a call to your insurer.

Can we both come to the first session as a couple?

Yes. Most couples do. If one of you is unsure, start with the consultation call and we'll talk it through.

How do I know if we're a good fit?

Call or text me. Ten minutes on the phone tells both of us more than any website can.
